As Buzz searches for a route back home through space and time, he is accompanied by a group of determined recruits and his endearing robot companion cat, Sox. The film follows the legendary Space Ranger after he and his commander and crew are marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth. Lightyear is both an epic science fiction action-adventure film and the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy. It is a spin-off of the Toy Story film series and serves as an origin story for the fictional test pilot/astronaut character that served as the inspiration for the Buzz Lightyear toy/action figure that was featured in the main films. The film was produced by Pixar Animation Studios.
